·        5 things you can see: Look around and identify five visual details. This can be anything from the colour of a wall to the patterns on your clothing. Focusing on your visual environment draws attention away from overwhelming thoughts (Robertson, 2020).

·        4 things you can touch: Feel the texture of four items nearby. Whether it’s the fabric of your clothes, the surface of a table, or the softness of a cushion, tactile experiences can ground you and soothe your nervous system (Shapiro, 2020).

·        3 things you can hear: Pay attention to three distinct sounds, such as the hum of a fan or the chirping of birds. Engaging your auditory senses helps to reconnect you with the world around you.

·     2 things you can smell: Identify two smells in your environment. Even if the scents are faint, this exercise can stir memories and emotions, providing comfort and calm (Herz, 2016).

·        1 thing you can taste: Finally, focus on one taste, whether it's something you are eating or simply the taste in your mouth. Engaging with your sense of taste can further root you in the moment, enhancing your overall experience.
